Dineshkanthan Thangaraja added the Boys singles title to his belt by beating Chung Hyo Woo in the final of the ITF Junior Circuit week-2 held at the SLTA courts yesterday.

Woo beat Dineshkanthan’s doubles partner Amresh in the semi-final earlier last week and it was sweet revenge for the Sri Lankan to beat his Korean opponent in straight sets 7/5, 6/3.

Though it was a tough first set, where Woo matched his counterpart shot for shot, Dineshkanthan’s agility and mobility around the court was too much for him. The Sri Lankan used his speed to his advantage and pulled off the first set 7/5, with a few scares here and there.

But come the second set Dineshkanthan had assessed Woo’s game and was clinical in executing his plan, which eventually led to the downfall of his far-eastern challenger. The small crowd present though partisan to the Sri Lankan star would have felt for Woo as he was not only playing his opponent but the hot Colombo sun as well.

Thangaraja proved he has much to offer for the future with his performance in week-2 of the ITF Junior Circuit. He won 2 titles, the Boys Singles yesterday and the Boys Doubles title with Amresh Jayawickrema. This resulted in a spectacular week for Sri Lankan tennis.
