Intra university speech contest of the University of Moratuwa |

"Speak Olympiad 2009", is the intra university speech contest of the University of Moratuwa(UoM) organized by the Gavel Club of the UoM. The event has become one of the most awaited events in the university calendar as it draws participants from all three faculties of the university.
This is the fourth consecutive year that the Gavel Club organizes this event to raise awareness of the undergraduate community about the power of communication and leadership skills and also find hidden talent among the undergraduates. Numerous winners and finalists at "All Island Inter University Speech Contest" and the "All Island Best Speaker" contests have been proud discoveries of past "Speak Olympiad" contests.
"Speak Olympiad 2009" ~ The Right of Speech and Expression
~ At the preliminary round, contestants were asked to deliver a 5 - 7 minute prepared speech. Thirty seven promising undergraduates rose up to the challenge and twelve talented speakers were selected for the semi finals. Apart from the 5 - 7 minute prepared speech, twelve semi finalists were tested on their ability of making an impromptu speech for 1 - 2 ½ minutes and the finest five public speakers were chosen by an eminent panel of judges. The five finalists, K. Kandasamy and Sachith Vidanapathirana of 2nd year, Eshan Perera - 3rd year, Ajanthan Sivathas and Isuru Madanayake Final year will showcase their oratory skills on October 22 2009 from 4PM onwards at the Civil Auditorium of the UoM. They will battle it out for the CODEGEN CHALLENGE SHIELD in front of dignitaries of the University of Moratuwa, fellow undergraduates and the panel of judges headed by the legendary public speaking guru Able Toastmaster, Mr.Haleem Ghouse. CodeGen (pvt) Ltd. is the strategic partner for this year's Speak Olympiad.
