Non Destructive Testing: A career option

 

For students who have opted for Science stream (Maths, Physics, Chemistry and a simple pass in English), KALVA Engineers Lanka(private)Ltd, has designed a Technical course to qualify under SNT-TC-1A (2006) syllabus of American Society of Non Destructive Testing (ASNT) for a level 2 Technician's certificate.

A Foundation course in Technical English consisting of 24 class hours of 8 modules in Technical English, and 36 class hours in IELTS (general) syllabus for proficiency in the use of English language for employment abroad, and writing reports will enable O/L and A/L students to follow the NDT course.
NDT level 2 Technician's course is made up of 284 class hours, of which 248 class hours are for theory and 36 class hours of practical training. Full Time 7class hours per day/six days per week for two months, or for working students as a weekend course of 16 class hours per weekend spread over four months (8hrs each on Saturday and Sunday).

Kalva Engineers Lanka (private) Ltd. was formed as a joint venture between KALVA Engineers(private)Ltd, Hyderabad, India and N.Ananthmurthy as a BOI project for Technical Education. The Chairman of the Company Mr.K.S.R.Chandramurthy is also Chairman and Managing Director of KALVA Engineers in India, a graduate in Metallurgy and MBA. He has written many books on NDT subjects, which will be given free of charge to those students following NDT classes.

The other Directors of the Company are: Mrs.Kalvakolanu Jayalakshmi; in Sri Lanka, Mr.N.Ananthmurthy who served as CEO of Lanka Ashok Leyland PLC for the past ten years is the Managing Director of the Company. He is a graduate in Mechanical Engineering and holds a post graduate qualification in Management from U.K. Mrs.N.Srivalli Ananthmurthy a Postgraduate in Psychology and a lecturer and counselling psychotherapist is a Director and Mr.Dinesh Weerakkody (FCMA; MBA) who is a leading HR Consultant and Managing Director of Cornucopia Consultants and other leading companies in Sri Lanka too is a Director.

The Company offers Sri Lankan and foreign students aspiring to qualify as NDT Technicians, a high class technical course employing experienced Instructors from the parent Company in India, holding ASNT Level 3 certification and more than ten years of teaching experience in NDT field.

The subjects taught are Ultrasonic Testing, Ultrasonic thickness gauge, Visual Testing, Penetrant Testing, Hardness Testing, Radiography Testing, Magnetic Particle Testing, Eddy current Testing and Remote control Testing,(the last two only introduction) and Basic Metallurgy. These testing methods find wide acceptance in industries such as Petrochemical, Fertilizer, Refineries, Power, Automobile, Oil and Gas sector, Railways, Aerospace and Aircraft maintenance Ship Building and Ship Repair, Construction and Engineering Industry such as Foundry or Forgings.

A Bridging course consisting of 72 class hours is also available in the evenings for practising NDT Technicians who wish to qualify for ASNT Level 2 Certification.
