No upsets; favourites ease through

The Nationalized Services All Island Open Badminton Championships 2009 started off in fine fettle at the S.Thomas’ College indoor courts at Mt. Lavinia yesterday.

It was the preliminary rounds of the various age groups that were held yesterday as it was the first day of the tournament. Matches went on with no upsets caused and the favourites easing past their opponents to the next round.

The first round matches of the U-13 Boys, U-13 Girls, U-17 Girls, U-17 Boys and some 2nd round matches of the U-13 Boys, U-17 Boys and the 3rd round of the U-13 Boys and Girls took place.
The preliminary stages of the tournament are scheduled to be held in the next two days with the Finals scheduled to be held on Wednesday and Thursday (23-24 Sep).

The awards ceremony will be held on 24 September 2009 at 3.00 p.m. with Mrs. Leisha De Silva Chandrasena of Sri Lanka Telecom as the Chief Guest.

This tournament is organized by the Nationalised Services Badminton Association (NSBA) which is an affiliated member of the Sri Lanka Badminton Association (SLBA).with Sri Lanka Telecom being the principal sponsor.
