Cliff: Colombo not in the Golden Jubilee World Tour

By Ranjit Vethakan

Evergreen Pop idol Cliff Richard will not pop into Sri Lanka next year, after all, as a part of his Golden Jubilee Celebration World Tour with The Shadows.

As reported exclusively in The Sunday Times on April 12 the British Knight is teaming up with his famous backing band for last tour around the world to mark his 50th year in Show business.  Sir Cliff performed his only concert on Sri Lankan soil on 23rd February, back in 2007 to a packed house at the Sri :Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre.

But the promoter of that Concert, popular radio station, Gold FM didn’t show much enthusiasm in bringing back the British Star Raynor Silva, Managing Director of the radio station, implied that it was too soon to bring back an Artiste of any calibre.

Cliff and The Shadows combined to produce 19 No. 1 Hits while The Shadows on their own, churned up 31 Hits, with a sound all their own! The World Tour starts on September 21 with a sell-out concert at the Dublin Stadium and will wind up on March 2 in the South New Zealand City of Christchurch.

In between, the tour would have wound through most of Europe as well as Australia and New Zealand.
