Leisure World

The log carried us up the slide. Not anticipating what it could do, we lightly waved at the tiny figures below us and suddenly the speed gathered. Without warning the weight of the log rushed us down the steep slope, crashing on to a pool of water splashing water everywhere including on us. That was the Log Flume.

An exciting ride at Leisure World. But they had come up with more features to appeal to their customers.

This April, the Water Area introduced the Aqua Trail. Six slides of all colours and designs leading to a landing pool.

Two of the slides are like a tube, giving the feeling of sliding though a tunnel. Like the Aqua Trail, many of the interactions at Leisure World are the first in the country.

On entering the Game Arcade, flashing lights and sounds of disco surrounded us. Car and motor cycle
racing games were lined to the right. To the left and all around the arcade was an array of games called Family Bowl, Pirate Revenge, Crazy Hoop and Time Crisis all under "action and fun games". A game is activated by a coin inserted that costs Rs. 50 each.

The rainforest has been a developing project; currently there are models of 50 kinds of species. The purpose of these six acres of rain forest has been to educate and inculcate in the children who visit Leisure World, the value of protecting flora.

The newest of the dry rides is the Bumper Cars. The two-seaters reminded us of Dodgem cars, except this one has an exciting feature of guns, to spice up the action of bumping into each other.

The Sales and Marketing Executive, Sanoji Wijesundera, says that besides the water rides, the three thriller rides, the Happy Express, Junior Coaster and Super Swinger are some of the leading thrill seekers, of increasing interest among the customers.

Leisure World has big plans for the future. This August will be filled with Night Activities at the 55 acre performancs, such as live bands, dance performances, magic shows, food action stations and the amusement rides till the late hours.

The park has decided to stay open till 9.00 p.m. on weekends and public holidays. Currently the park hosts weddings and birthday parties.

To top it all the park provides helicopter rides for 10 minutes at a price of Rs. 4500 per person. They also allow the helicopters to take the customers to a location such as Kandy or Galle. The price for such a journey can be negotiated.

For the park General Manager, Rezwan Mohamed, this is just the first stage. "We are planning to have a Roller Coaster and we are working towards staying facilities for our customers", he said.

Customers to Leisure World wait in anticipation for these new developments and improvements.
