By L.B.Senaratne

Sleuths of the Bribery Department nabbed a constable attached to the Peradeniya Police when he had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs. 100,000 to carry out an investigation into a case of arson.

In this case the complaint had been made regarding a house at Dehiange in Muruthalawa which had been burnt down sometime ago.

It is alleged the complainant had made several requests for an investigation by the Police and had finally complained to senior DIG Gamini Navaratne that the constable had asked for a bribe to carry out the investigation.

After this complaint was made Bribery Department officers had gone into action and nabbed the constable in the act of accepting the bribe.

It is now learnt that some other Police personnel had been transferred over this incident. The suspect is expected to be produced before a Magistrate.
