SLT Publications moves towards broadening its accessibility and distribution services

By Gayani Perera

SLT Publications Private Limited will be hosting an information base free of charge for the benefit of the entire nation by inviting all the service operators to provide their information which will be listed free of charge in all the SLT Directory associated databases. This will not only provide customers a local exposure but will also enable them to get a global exposure as well. The Sunday Times spoke to Mr. Ruwan Wijetunge, General Manager - Sales and Marketing and Ms. Farah Hajireen, Assistant Manager of SLT Publications to find out about the company's plan to reach out to a wider client base.

Mr. Ruwan Wijetunge

"In the future we are looking at providing our customers with tourist pages in our directory as well as a separate tourist e-directory in Sri Lanka. With the end of the war we see a big boom happening in the tourist trade and in the future we will be working closely with the tourist authorities to ensure that these new concepts will be launched. At present we have over 1.5 million subscribers. We are working towards ensuring that our SLT directories are distributed to the maximum through our distribution channels. Presently our directories are distributed to all organizations irrespective of their service providers", says Mr. Wijetunge.

The Rainbow Pages directory distribution for the year 2009-2010 was started two months ago. The residential customers in the Western Province have the ability to collect their directories from the collecting centres which include the tele-shops and the regional telecommunication offices of the SLT in the Western Province. Government and business organizations will have the SLT directories delivered to their doorsteps. The additional stock of directories will be distributed to the hotels and other public places and will also be available for purchase for any other non SLT customers who should require them.

"We offer customers the business as well as residential directories and those who require our directory CD can also obtain one as well. We offer a free call centre facility with regards to residential directory information, this service is limited to our SLT subscribers but others have the ability to obtain this information through our website or through our CD directory. In the future we also plan on increasing our accessibility to the Rainbow Pages by providing new value additions such as the e-book, which we hope to launch in the near future which will offer the entire directory information online which could be down loaded. In addition to this our Rainbow Pages Sales Campaign for the 2010 Provincial and Western Province directories have also commenced where we are in the process of collecting the necessary information and advertisements in this regard", further stated Mr. Wijetunge.

Ms. Farah Hajireen

Commenting of the company's plans on increasing its outreach Ms. Hajireen said, "Our residential customers have the ability to collect their directories from our appointed outlets in the Western Province, tele-shops and regional telecom offices, where we have assigned separate assistants to each of these outlets to help out our customers and provide information and assistance. Government and other business organizations will have their directories delivered to their doorsteps though our courier service. In addition to this we also see new potential in the North and East areas of the country not only with regards to our directories but also with regards to advertising as well as these areas a deemed for a major economic boom due to the end of the war."

The SLT website is the fastest to be updated and therefore offers customers the latest information at the touch of a button. Currently the Rainbow Pages SLT directory is the only comprehensive and classified directory circulating in Sri Lanka, and by publishing the information of other subscribers in the Rainbow Pages web, CD and Call Centres the Rainbow Pages hopes to become the national information service provider in the country.
