Dr. Miththapala on elephants

The National Trust of Sri Lanka will present another lecture in its ongoing monthly series - this time, 'The Wild Elephants of Sri Lanka' by Dr. Srilal Miththapala on April 30, at 6.30 p.m. at the Barefoot Gallery, Colombo 3.

The talk will give a brief background of the evaluation of the elephants and the scientific classification of African and Asian species, the characteristics of Sri Lankan elephants along with the highlights of the historical and religious association that elephants have had with Sri Lankan culture.

Dr. Miththapala gives an overview of the anatomy of the elephant, its habits and social life as well as the current serious issues of the human elephant conflict.

He will also touch briefly on the research that he conducted at the Uda Walawe National Park and share some of the experiences that he has had watching and studying wild elephants for the past 20 years.For more information contact Wimala Fernando on 4605143.
