IBA experts to review Rule of Law

A delegation from the International Bar Association (IBA), headed by Lord William Goodhart, QC, is in Colombo to discuss matters relating to the Rule of Law in Sri Lanka.

The IBA delegation will meet members of the legal fraternity, as well as government and opposition politicians during its study-tour.

Lord Goodhart, a former Commissioner of the International Commission of Jurists, visited Sri Lanka in 1997 as a member of a delegation for the Centre for Independence of Judges and Lawyers.

Other members of the delegation include Yang-Poh Yeo, a former president of the Malaysian Bar Association (2005-2007), and Alex Wilks, a former parliamentary legal officer of the British House of Lords.

The mission’s rapporteur is Australian barrister Michelle Butter, who is currently working on an inter-state case between Georgia and Russia before the European Court of Human Rights.
