An evening with a famous author
From our Kid Reporter Sathnim Bandara (9 years) Kid Reporter No. J-01 Gateway College, Kandy

Michael Morpurgo is a world famous children's author who has won many world prizes for his writing. Lots of children gathered at the British Council, Kandy to see him at 6 p.m. on Wednesday January 28, 2009.

He ran a farm in Devon, after giving up his job as a teacher. Then he and his wife Clare set up an educational charity farm for city children. This helped children living in towns, those who did not know from where the food comes, because most of their food comes from the supermarket. This enabled children to get experience in farm work and country life for example.

In between taking milk from the cows, he wrote books by looking at the children who worked in the farm. Thus he could get the ideas to write. He is a children's story writer. He has three children and six grandchildren.

Michael Morpurgo is my favourite author. He wrote many books. He talked to me and read us stories called 'Sir Gawan,'

'The Green Night' and 'Cool.' He told us about his childhood. I had a grin on my face when I saw him.
I went with my brother and my mother. It was my first time I saw an author in my life.

Michael Morpurgo is 65 years old. I like him very much.

He asked questions from us. I like Michael Morpurgo's stories so much.
