Changes in the pharmacy profession over the years have made it necessary for pharmacists to take a more active role in managing health care. Today's pharmacist is often the health professional whom patients are in contact with during critical points in their health care process. The evolution of pharmacy practice requires a variety of laboratory and classroom spaces for optimal learning. This has all been taken into account at Ohio Northern University's College of Pharmacy.

Founded in 1884, Ohio Northern University's College of Pharmacy has had the privilege to graduate over 7,000 pharmacists during its 124-year history. The R. H. Raabe College of Pharmacy is distinctive among other colleges of pharmacy in the U.S.A. as it integrates a comprehensive foundation in the pharmaceutical sciences and the practice of pharmacy along with a strong liberal arts curriculum. One of the unique characteristics of the program is that students enter the Doctor of Pharmacy program directly out of high school. After successful completion of the six-year Pharmacy program students are awarded the Doctor of Pharmacy degree and are eligible to take the appropriate licensing exams. ONU's graduates are distinctly known for their high pass rates in these licensing exams.

The College of Pharmacy is committed to assuring that all students receive the finest education possible. ONU's faculty members are dedicated scholars with a desire and commitment to assist student learning. ONU offers a state of the art program combining didactic and experiential education preparing students to enter careers in a rapidly changing health care environment.

Ohio Northern's outstanding clinical facilities illustrate the application of knowledge to actual therapeutic decisions. The state of the art facilities include clinical research laboratories, a drug information center, and a Pharmacy Skills Center and Simulation Laboratory.

One of the trademarks of the College of Pharmacy is providing the necessary cutting-edge opportunities for students to apply their coursework in pharmacy practice situations. At the heart of continuing this tradition of excellence is the college's Pharmacy Skills Center and Simulation Laboratory.

The approximately 2,400 square-foot laboratory is located on the first floor of the Raabe College of Pharmacy. The center features six state-of-the -art compound/counseling pods with portable OTC simulation stations and is designed so that professors can effectively assess students and easily provide them feedback to improve their skills.

Due to the strategic linkage between pharmacy practice and drug information, the skills center and lab are connected to the current Drug Information Center. "The skills center and lab allows our faculty to work closely with students in training them for the real life practice situations of today and the future" comments Dr. Donnie Sullivan, professor and chair of The Department of Pharmacy Practice.
Pharmacy is a highly competitive program at Ohio Northern University however it leads to a degree that is highly respected world wide and which has a tremendous future. Inquiries regarding the profession and ONU's academic program in Pharmacy are welcomed.
