Zahira retain Reborn Trophy
 
Zahira College Maradana defeated St Benedict’s 1-0 in the final of the All Island Inter- Schools Invitation Football Tournament to retain the Reborn Trophy played at the Sugathadasa Stadium. There was no scoring during the half way stage of the game.

The winning goal came five minutes before the final whistle with the highest goal scorer of the tournament and forward Mohamed Fazal shooting a scorcher having received a pass from right extreme Shamil Ahmed. Earlier in the semi finals Zahira overcame De Mazenod Kandana 5-3 while St Benedict’s got the better of Isipathana 2-1.

Apart from the main trophies individual awards were won by Shamil Ahmed (Zahira - Man of the Match), M.N.M. Rasheed (Zahira – Man of the Tournament), N. Madusanka (St Benedict’s – Best Goal Keeper) and M.N.M. Fazal (Zahira – Highest Goal Scorer)

The tournament organized by the Group of 80 of Hameed Al Husseinie College in collaboration with the 125 years celebration of the school saw 16 of the top soccer playing schools participate and was held over nine days. The tournament organized for the second year was conducted with professionalism by the Group of 80’s spearheaded by H.A.M. Munowwar and M.Z Farook.-MSA
