Funday Times - A Poem for the week

The child
By Ayodhya Bandara Perera (12 + years), Bishop's College

(For International Children's Day)

Imagine what the world would be,
If children were treated lovingly,
A place filled with joy and laughter,
Where kindness is divided equally…

A child is like a fragrant flower,
Beautiful, tender and sweet
But, some adults in the
grown-up world,
Treat the child like a beast…

Rich or poor, black or white,
A child is a gift to mankind.
A shining candle in the dark of the night,
Somehow, the child survives…

Shower him with love and kindness,
Guide him gently holding his hand.
He will change this world to a better place,
'For the child is the father of man'…
