Odds and Ends

Family generosity unlimited

A new company has been recently incorporated on a very limited liability basis. Bogollagama In-Laws Limited (B-I-L-L) ensures that only In-Laws get sent on overseas assignments. Three such instances were witnessed recently. In the first, an intended In-Law is sent to Washington as a Second Secretary. In the second, a current In-Law gets the higher post of Deputy High Commissioner in New Delhi. And in the third and latest, a female In-Law (probably chosen for the sake of gender balance)-is sent as High Commissioner to Singapore.

It is no secret that many interested persons eyeing posts overseas are conducting exhaustive searches for any In-Law connections to the chairman of B-I-L-L Ltd. While Rajapaksa Brothers Limited focuses on the domestic market, the Bogollagama-In-Lws Limited is positioned for overseas ventures. In the end, it’s the Tax Payer who foots the BILL for these overseas expeditions.

Wholesome threesome

Two ex-UNPers and now Government ministers, Mahinda Wijesekera and Bandula Gunawardena, were seen last Thursday enjoying a night out with UNP National Organiser S. B. Dissanayake.

They were spotted strolling into a Chinese restaurant in Colombo 5. Despite their differences in political philosophy, all three seemed to be hugely enjoying each other’s company.
