The things that put me in a bad mood
12 – 14 years
By Kusal Weraniyagoda, (13 years). Leeds International School, Galle

Sometimes, something puts me in a bad mood. In my leisure time I play computer games. If I find that my computer has errors and got stuck, I would be badly upset.
Before watching TV, I should finish all my homework. It's a must for me.

After returning from school, I do all my homework. When I switch on the TV to watch my favourite cartoon, if there is a power failure, I would be in a bad mood. Only thing I do is walking here and there checking the electricity.

Twice a week, I stay after school for badminton practice. But sometimes we are informed that it is cancelled. My hopes to play with my friends, vanish like bubbles.
Sometimes my father phones and asks us to get ready to go to the cinema or children's park. I eagerly get ready and stare at the road expecting my father. If my father gets late and we have to change our plan, I would be in a bad mood for the rest of the day.

The funniest joke I know
9 – 11 years

By Niluka Lakmali (11 years), Lunuwila R.C. School

Everyone likes jokes. My elder brother is famous for cracking jokes among our friends. One day, my father, mother and sister went out visiting a patient. At that time I was doing my homework with my elder brother's help.

Suddenly one of his friends came to meet him. After a short secret discussion, my brother told me, "Parents are coming within fifteen minutes. I am going to the bookshop to buy a maths book for me. We are returning home soon. Till then find a kitten with a bell around his neck in the store room."

He knows that I like kittens. As soon as they left I jumped to the store room and started searching. Though my body was covered with cobwebs, I didn't give up searching. When my brother returned home with his friend, they laughed and laughed looking at me. My brother opened a box, took out a toy kitten with a bell and gave it to me.

My favourite toy
8 years and below

By Chathil Kumara (7+ years), Republican International School, Nuwara Eliya

I have lots of toys. But out of all there is my favourite. It is my nice little toy robot. I got it from my mother for getting good marks in the examination. It has many colours, red, blue, grey and silver. It has flashing lights. It works on batteries.

It can talk. It can walk too. It says "stop the gun, live in peace." I play with it in the evenings. My brother too likes it. But I do not give it to him because I think he might break my sweet little toy.
