Threat of revolt by Muslim ministers
The crisis over the appointment of TMVP leader Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan deepened yesterday with an angry-rejected aspirant M.L.A. M. Hisbullah accusing President Mahinda Rajapaksa of ‘betraying the Muslim community, while government Muslim ministers were reportedly threatening to move out as an independent group.
 
Grounded Mihin gropes to take off
The grounding of the hastily launched budget airline Mihin Lanka last month, with more than Rs. 3000 million in debt is apparently not the end of the road, as the carrier is now actively attempting to resume flights with a fresh infusion of cash from the Treasury.
 
Lanka-Pakistan battle for UNHRC seat
Sri Lanka and Pakistan may have to battle it out for one of the four Asian places in the UN Human Rights Council (UNHCR) at the election to be held in New York on Wednesday, diplomatic sources say. Meanwhile, others say Sri Lanka and Pakistan's presence in the council would be at the expense of Bahrain and East Timor, two of the six contestants.
