Rain ruined the proceedings of the annual 34th limited over encounter between St Joseph’s and St Peter’s played at the R. Premadasa Stadium yesterday.

The Peterites sent into bat by Joes skipper Ruwantha Fernandopulle were given a solid start by openers Srimantha Wijeyaratne and Andre Berenger who made a knock of 40 putting on 54.

Two useful knocks --one of 42 by Ruwan Wickramanayake and the other an unbeaten 26 by Suranga Rodrigo which included 23 runs in an over off Prabuddha Sankalpa saw them end their 50 overs making 218 for 7.

The Josephians in their turn were able to face only six overs with heavy rain forcing the umpires to call off the match.

St Peter’s 218 for 7 in 50 overs (Ruwan Wickramanayake 41, Andri Berenger 40, Suranga Rodrigo 38 n.o.; Shameera Weerasinghe 2 for 26, Dinal Dambarage 2 for 36, Thisara Perera 2 for 38)

St Joseph’s 20 for 1 in 6 overs.
