Delicious dishes for a worthy cause

Several well-known personalities cooked delicious dishes ranging from salmon tataki to seafood paella at the Trans Asia Hotel last Friday to raise funds for children with cancer.

The event titled ‘That’s what friends are for’ was organized by the Charity Committee, an organization established in October 2003 which works on behalf of children with cancer. The charity organizes such activities twice a year to raise funds for their work and in the past worked towards enhancing the facilities at the Karapitiya hospital in Galle.

The six distinguished guests who cooked for a crowd of around 120 were Sanath Ukwatte, Chairman of Mt. Lavinia Hotel, Kumar Mirchandani, Managing Director of Favourite Group, Robert Blake, the US Ambassador, William Costley, General Manager of Hilton Hotel, Beppe Rochi, owner of Il Gelato and Abbas Esufally, Managing Director of Hemtours.

The dishes they cooked included salmon tataki, a prawn pernod, a penne pasta with broccoli, a chicken fajita, a seafood dish and a rich truffle mud cake.

“Each person cooked one dish and then we at Trans Asia cooked each of it in bulk for the guests. It was an entertaining event”, said Yasmin Cader, consultant – corporate affairs of Trans Asia Hotel which was the event partner.
