Royal Institute celebrates its Annual Sports-meet

It was a special day for the students of Royal Institute. October 30 was the school's annual sports-meet. It was a great
success.

It was held at the Sugathadasa Stadium. The chief guest was Mr. P.H.D. Waidyathilake, the Vice-President of the Sri Lanka Athletic Association. It was a colourful event with all the three branches of Royal Institute together.

The day's events started at 9 in the morning, with the lighting of the Olympic torch. It was carried in turn by the house captains. It was followed by many races and relays. All the participants were given refreshments.

The sportsmeet was attended by the Director, Manageress and Principal of all three branches.

The day was more colourful with the drill display. They had balloons in their hands and they were sent up, making the crowd gaze at the sky filled with colourful balloons.

Amidst all this, I stole the time to interview a child who said that he was enjoying the day and supporting his house – Kent. Then I interviewed a parent, who was very happy at the way things were organised. She said her son had won many first places.

Although it showered for a few minutes, the programmes went on smoothly.

Then came the walkpast and the Western Bands of the Nugegoda and the Havelock Branches. I was so proud as I was a member of the school band. Liverpool emerged in the first place. Our Chairman Mr. G.T. Bandara delivered a very worthy speech, followed by the Chief Guest. Then the vote of thanks was given by the School Captain.

Finally the sportsmeet came to an end with lowering of the school flag by the Games Captain.
