Two ways of honouring heroes

The memorial erected at the Parliament grounds in commemoration of war heroes reportedly pulled down on Tuesday, February 26, was being reshaped due to some changes that needed to be made to its design, Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) Director General Lakshman Hulugalle said. Mr. Hulugalle added that the war heroes’ memorial had no connection with the memorial being built elsewhere in memory of the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) stating that it was another project altogether.

Last week newspaper reports carried a story about the war heroes’ memorial having been completely brought down and that photographers who had attempted to take pictures of the site were turned away by security officials. However, The Sunday Times managed to take pictures of the site and also of the proposed IPKF statue site in Pelawatta.
