Celebrating World Chidlren’s Day

More than 500 children from all communities from remote villages have gathered at the Swarnapali Vidyalaya in Anuradhapura to celebrate World Children's Day which falls tomorrow, October 1.

The three-day programme included a visit to the religious sites in the area, a health clinic, a life-skills programme, an awareness programme on social evils and some sports activity.

Saturday night saw the excited children gathering round a bonfire having a sing-along. During tomorrow's celebrations, the children's flag, drawn by a child, will be pinned on Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake. The winners of the All-Island Essay and Art Competition will also be awarded their prizes during these celebrations being held under the patronage of Child Development and Women's Empowerment Minister Sumedha Jayasena.
