Schools in the Uva Province that participate in rugby will receive more technical assistance with Basil Rodrigo being appointed as the Senior Technical Officer to that province.

The former CH & FC winger Rodrigo has worked hard to promote rugby at grass root level in the villages of Sri Lanka before. He has taken the game to more than 350 schools in the Western, Wayamba, Central, North-Central and Uva Provinces. Basil Rodrigo will assist Nilantha Silva who is the President of the UPRFU and Denzil Darling the development officer of SLRFU in the promotion of rugby among the schools in Uva Province.

Rodrigo said that there are more than 2000 players in the Uva Province waiting to participate in tournaments this year. The boys are in the age categories of under-9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 16 and 18 will be in action at this tournament end of October. Rodrigo is not only a ruggerite but is also a national judo black belt holder, national gymnast, soccer player for Old Bens SC and a swimming instructor.

The Council of the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) had also sent Rodrigo to follow a level three coaching course in Singapore in April this year. He had also participated in the level one refereeing course and the level two referee assessing course conducted by the International Rugby Union.
