Ishara growing into a multi talented athlete
Thirteen-year-old Ishara Tennekone of Nalanda College is transforming into a multitalented sportsman. After he led his school team to end up as the runners-up in the All Island Inter School Baseball Championship 2007, he was selected as the captain of the Sri Lanka Under 13 team at the 5th international Youth Baseball Championship which took place in Italy.
Ishara’s sports prowess is not only confined to baseball. He has proved that he has a special aptitude for track and field events too.
At the all island Junior National Athletic Championship for the John Tarbet Shield 2007 he was placed second in the high jump event and won a merit certificate for that performance. He took the third place in the same event in the last year’s championships.
Besides the above he has shone in track and field events at the schools athletic meet, the Western Province meet, Borella Education Division meet (where he also took part in the 4 x 100 relay) and the All Island Inter School Athletic meet. (HW)
