Fishermen rescued off Trincomalee

Six fishermen were rescued in mid-sea by the Sri Lanka Navy on Thursday about 640 kilometres east of Trincomalee, after their trawler developed a technical fault.

The multi-day trawler ‘Ishan Lahiru’ which left the Tangalle fisheries harbour on July 8 met with difficulties in the sea off Batticaloa on August 18.

The Navy’s Eastern Command launched a search and rescue operation to save the fishing craft with SLNS Shakthi locating the distressed vessel.
