The delegation was led by Presidential Advisor Basil Rajapaksa and included several ministers who visited the villages of Yaka Wewa, Palugasdamana and Gonamadiyawa, to inspect the facilities available to the people and submit a report on the ground situation to the President.

“The construction of the protective bunker line which was the main demand by the people of Kebitigollewa, who were the target of an LTTE attack last year in which 64 civilians were killed, has been completed. This security zone has been completed covering the area from Mannar to Kokkuthuduwa reinforced with 253 check bunkers,” the President’s Office said in a statement.

The other demand of the villagers was for electricity supplies before the upcoming national New Year. They were assured that electricity supplies would be expedited and other amenities such as water supplies too would be provided to them shortly. The delegation inspected a housing scheme coming up in the Gonamadiyawa area.

The Dambulu Maha Vihara viharadhipathi Ven. Viharahalmillewe Dhammarakkitha Thera, NCP Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake, Ministers Tissa Karaliyadda, S.M.Chandrasena and Duminda Dissanayake were among those present.
