New packaging for poultry products

Crysbro, Sri Lanka’s leading poultry producer has launched a new packaging concept.

Tying up with world renowned Cryovac Packaging, Crysbro has enhanced its consumer appeal by extending product value. Cryovac Packaging assists in improving food hygiene, processing and manufacturing efficiencies as well as better consumer presentation. Made of a special permeable material which is designed specially to avoid hydrogen sulphide build up which results in off odour, these shrink wrap vacuum packages offer minimal free moisture and is leak proof, the company said.

Crysbro is the only poultry producer in Sri Lanka to receive ISO 14001, ISO 9001, HACCP – ISO 22000 and 2 certificates for halal. “We have complex requirements and very demanding conditions, and therefore we are proud of our accomplishments and these awards”, Chairman of Crysbro Mohamed Imtiaz said.

At the launch, Minister Maithripala Sirisena, Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, Mahaweli Development and Environment said, “Utilizing the assistance of the private sector of the country is vital to bring in foreign exchange to the country and for the development of the nation as a whole.”

He pointed out that therefore the authorities must give recognition to Crysbro for their effort in improving the standards of the food sector and the diversification with which they work. “These projects also open up job opportunities for them,” the minister said.

Crysbro, founded in 1972, today employs over 2000 direct and indirect employees and has its farms and production sited located in many remote parts of the country thereby also helping in community development by providing employment to hundreds of families in those areas. The company is a 100% Sri Lankan-sourced enterprise where everything from the grandparent bird to the final broiler chicken is home grown and Golden Grains, a subsidiary company has invested in land and machinery to produce high quality maize and soya poultry feed, which will be used to ensure higher productivity.
