Lewke takes lead in SLSRFA race

By Shamseer Jaleel

With the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) Annual General Meeting closing up in January 6 the former Police player, Referees Society President and former national coach Nimal Lewke took complete control of the governing bodies top and hot spot.

Lewke came out with a 18-7 win in one of the strongest provinces – as the Western Province announced its decision to the governing body. The former Police player got the support from almost all the leading “A” division Colombo clubs. CH & FC, Police SC, Navy, Army, Airforce and Old Zahira voting for Lewke.

Though Ruhunu and Sabaragamuwa Provinces voted for his opponent Michael Jayasekera it is very unlikely that they will make an impact on Lewke’s race to the top spot. Nimal Lewke is tipped to get at least 9 out of the 10 votes from Central Province.
