MoU for disaster? - Letter

The article headlined “Time to sharpen the sword of accountability” on October 29 by your columnist WOO on the MoU between the two political parties was welcome indeed.

There are the innocent and law abiding citizens from prelates to intellectuals who see all good in the two big parties coming together. These good people refuse to see or believe the treachery and tyranny practiced by them in turn over the years to fleece the economy, nature and the rich cultural heritage to which they pay lip service even today.

Though nothing came out of it we had the belated satisfaction at least of the party in the opposition baring the corruption of the ruling party and promising to bring them to justice once they are installed in power. Then from 1972 we saw the escalation of the number of ministries, which too drew a similar response from the opposition to see it multiplying with the successive governments.

The fear of those who know a thing or two is who will at least bare the corruption of these two parties once they govern jointly. Will it not be, you scratch my back and I will scratch yours?

This writer is privy to some information of two leading lights in the party that is to help in good governance not settling nearly a million rupees for telephones used for pre-election propaganda. What if they are offered the position of the Minister of Finance or more?

It is only an independent press ever alert to the nature of our politicians that could be a check.
