By Sanath Weerasuriya, Pix by Shan Bandu Weerasinghe

The Peak Residence in Kandy is a high flyer like its name sake. Nested at the highest point in the city in Sri Wickrema Rajasimhe road off Upper Lake road, Peak Residence is just ten months old.

Within a very short period of time, the hotel has managed to gain popularity as one of the best honeymoon destinations in the hills. This is mainly due to the hard labour of its Manager Anuruddha de Silva.

Located on an elevation of 1900 feet above the sea level, hotel gets the best view of the Bogambara rugby football ground, when the action is on.

Peak Residence has 14 fully appointed rooms all with aerial view.

‘We promote our hotel as a honeymoon destination and with in this short period, we have catered to over 25 weddings and number of honeymooners from around the country. It is a surprise for me too; some times we get couples from Matara, Galle and once a honeymoon couple from Vavuniya too. It is nice to see different people from all over the country’said Anuruddha.

Cuisine is one of the biggest attractions of the hotel. Peak Residence is blessed with a talented Chef Nihal Piyaratne, whose culinary adventure is popular in Colombo too.

Western, Eastern, Sri Lankan, Indian, Chinese and Maldivian dishes are some of the popular culinary delights at the hotel.
‘Our most popular package is takeaway meal for Rs.150/-. It is called 'Chef's Special pack'. Maldivian is a new thing for Sri Lankan palette and it is getting popular’ said Chef Nihal Piyaratne.

The proprietors of the hotel are Sunimal Wijayaratne and his wife Anupama are based in Maldives and that is the main reason to add Maldivian dishes in to the menu.

All rooms are equipped with IDD telephones, piped music, safety locker and a mini bar. The Peak Residence is also a centre for excursions.
