Ragama CC –Tamil Union the best on card

By M. Shamil Amit

With the weather almost back to normal the Sirasa Premier Division cricket tournament will start off today after a two week lay off.

The six matches to be played today are Panadura vs BRC at Panadura, Tamil Union vs Ragama at P. Sara Stadium, CCC vs Sebastianites at CCC, SSC vs Saracens at SSC, Colts vs Badureliya CC at Colts and Moors vs Chilaw Marians at Braybrooke Place.

The pick of the six matches is the encounter between unbeaten Ragama CC who are the leaders in Group ‘A’ and Tamil Union. Ragama CC has been able to maintain a hundred percent record in the shorter version of the game and are favourites to pull off their fourth consecutive win. They have also fared well in the league version though losing one game outright they scored a morale booster win over the strong Bloomfield side in their first match. In the three matches they have played so far they beat Sebastianites, BRC and Panadura.

Group ‘B’ leaders Moors are going to have a match in their hands when they confront the formidable Chilaw Marians. Moors with a win over NCC which has been their only win from three outings will know what to expect as the Marians had the honour of dismissing Saracens for 46, the lowest score in the history of the tournament and is a side to beat.

The other two matches in this group should see SSC, though taking the field sans their top players, getting the better of spoonists Saracens while Colts, who have been the most unfortunate team with their previous matches washed off due to rain, look set to secure their first victory when they confront Badureliya CC in their own den.
