Popular actor and politician Vijaya Kumaratunge, who was assassinated will be remembered at the Elphinstone theatre at 6.00 pm on October 9, 2006.

Vijaya who won the Most popular actor award repeatedly will be remembered on his 61st birth anniversary. The felicitation which is to be held with the participation of artistes and politicians and will be addressed by filmmaker Tissa Abeysekere, Minister of Power and Energy, John Seneviratne and Parliamentarian Rajitha Senaratne.

The programme includes a musical show with the songs of Vijaya sung by Cletus Mendis, Kumari Munaswinghe and Manjula Warnakulasuriya and a short documentary on Vijaya's life in cinema prepared by Tissa Nagodavithana will also be screened.

D. A. Dharmasiri, M. P. Premasiri of Vijaya Felicitation Committee and T. M. Sangadasa, chairman of the 'Kala Lanka Foundation' organize this event.
