Coal power plant at Sampur?

The Government is to receive funding from the Indian Government through a credit line to construct a coal power plant in Trincomalee.

Last week Indian officials and a team of CEB engineers with their Chairman were in Sampur inspecting the proposed site.

Although the Indian Government has promised funding, the project is still to get underway following a delay in picking the correct site. Earlier due to objections by the Army and Air Force, the site which was chosen close to the Army camp and the airstrip was abandoned.

The CEB is looking at Sampur which the security forces believe to be a good location.
However the CEB is yet to take a decision.

The new coal power plant is in addition to the Norochcholai coal power plant in Puttalam.
