Pre-schools from Latvia for tsunami-hit

Two pre-schools for the tsunami affected communities were established recently at Suriyawewa in Hambantota, by Latvian Tsunami Relief Mission (LTRM).

This Latvian mission has been in operation in Sri Lanka since March this year, with a donation of 18,000 US$ collected by the Honorary Consulate of Sri Lanka in the Republic of Latvia.

The pre-schools complete with playgrounds and furniture provided from Switzerland, expect an attendance of 30 students each with two teachers being paid by the donations.

Private sector companies Sony Baltic and DHL Latvia too supported LTRM in this venture.

Although Suriyawewa was not directly affected by the tsunami, many of its residents became victims when they were at the Hambantota market.
