Policemen suspended over alleged bribery at checkpoint

Three policemen including a Sub Inspector were suspended yesterday for allegedly soliciting bribes from two men who were stopped at a checkpoint opposite the Kirulapone public grounds, Police said.

DIG Colombo Pujith Jayasundera told The Sunday Times that these policemen had allegedly solicited Rs. 3,000 from the two men when they stopped their vehicle at the checkpoint around 1.30 am on Saturday.

The DIG had received information of the incident and investigated. The men had admitted that they asked for the money.

They were suspended pending further inquiries.
