US varsities open doors for Sri Lankan students

In a move to encourage more Sri Lankan students to study in the United States, representatives of 15 top US universities will be in Colombo next week to address prospective students.

The new US Ambassador Robert O.Blake told reporters on Tuesday that he would like to see an increase in the number of Sri Lankan students studying in the US and said the Embassy would assist by providing information on the institutions as well as on financial assistance available.

“Sri Lankan students are competitive at the highest level as they have proved by gaining admission to the best US colleges. None should think they are not good enough to get a US college education,” US Embassy Press officer Evan Owen told The Sunday Times.

The visiting university representatives will address students in Colombo on September 30 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Taj Samudra Hotel.

More information can be obtained from the United States-Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission on Tel. nos. 2564176/2564153.
