Cinema for children

Cinema Media Foundation and Media Education Project of the National Educational Institute are jointly presenting an exhibition of world renowned films with the objective of educating and entertaining school children of Sri Lanka.

There will be screenings of award winning films of world renowned directors. Rashooman, Seven Samurai, Life is Beautiful, Gandhi, The Dictator and Some Birds Can't Fly are some of the films selected from world cinema while land mark films from Sri Lankan cinema like 'Uganthaya', 'Kaliugaya', 'Gam Peraliya', 'Thunmanhandiya', 'Viragaya' and 'Parasathumal' are in the list.

The media education projects will present seminars discussions and promotions on mass communication, teledramas, radio, photography and information technology and will be conducted by eminent journalists and experts in the relevant subjects. From the beginning of world cinema since the Lumier Brothers the project will highlight films from the early stages of cinema, documentaries and mileposts in film development.

There will be awareness programmes on the following topics to widen the knowledge of school children.

Principals, School Film Societies and Media organizations who are interested in this project are welcome to contact the School Media Society Project, National Education Institute, Maharagama or president Cinema Media Foundation of Sri Lanka, 64/1 Barnes Place, Colombo-7.

The second stage of this project will be started in the Galagedara electorate in Kandy district this month. Schools have already been selected for this programme.
