By M. Shamil Amit

Three Pakistan boxers have been tested positive for consuming banned performance enhancing drugs at the recently concluded 10th South Asian Games held in Sri Lanka. Two of the boxers Nauman Karim and Dur Mahmud were opponents of Sri Lankan boxers T.B. Harsha Kumara and S. Indika Kumara.

Incidentally one of the boxers Nauman Karim who won the gold medal at the last edition of the SAG held in Islamabad, Pakistan was banned for one year for the same offence and that time too his opponent was Harsha Kumara. After the last games it was highlighted in the media that Harsha Kumara was elevated and given the gold medal honour, but he is yet to receive it.

The second boxer Dur Mahmud won the gold medal in the Welterweight Under 69kgs against Sri Lanka’s S. Indika Kumara, both bouts ended in contreversy.

The results of the drug test have been officially noticed to Dr. Geethajana Mendis by the authorities from the Malaysia lab where all the processing took place. Dr. Mendis speaking to The Sunday Times confirmed that he has been notified and that the contents of it have been sent to the Pakistan Boxing Association whom he said will have to accept the verdict given.
