Parents caught in Trinity scrum

The Trinity College rugger team is all set to take off to New Zealand on a tour shortly. While the necessary funds, amounting to Rs. 125,000 per player has been collected for the tour, a problem regarding funds for the six officials who were to go along with the team cropped up. But the timing of the tour couldn’t have been better because the Grade One admissions were on and they were busy canvassing, going on to collect money from the parents, in addition to the Rs. 90,000 they have to pay as term fees. And not many parents were happy with the developments.

Many a slip has Anura

Tourism Minister Anura Bandaranaike was the chief guest at the commemoration of late SLMC leader A.H.M. Ashraff last evening at the BMICH. The Minister was getting on the stage when he missed his footing and fell. His escorts were quick to react and get him back on his feet. The Minister then went on to make his address to enthusiastic crowds.

All the President’s scribes?

A group of men have started a new newspaper. They are operating from an office in Borella. But they have an advantage over other newspapers. They are calling up government institutions and asking for supplements, saying they are operating with the blessings of the President’s Office. They are armed with a letter to prove it as well.
