Scrabbler of the Year 2006

Members of the Sri Lanka Scrabble Association concluded their Scrabbler of the Year tournament at Randiya Hotel Moratuwa recently.

Prof. Merrill Perera and Lakshman Cooray were placed 1st & 2nd and they were required to play a Best-of-Three final and once again Prof. Merrill edged out his opponent two games to one.

He therefore retains the Gordon Cooray Challenge Cup donated by namesake of the Australian Scrabble Players’ Association, Victoria. Runner up Lakshman keeps the Winifred Wickremasinghe Challenge Shield donated by Anil, in memory of his mother.

Highest Game and Word Score awards go to Bernie Lowe whilst Eshanka gets the Bonus prize. These and other prizes will be given at the SLSA Awards Nite in November.
