The Kandy Perahera

The Kandy Esala Perahera is the most beautiful pageant in Sri Lanka. This perahera was started by King Kirthi Sri Rajasinghe.

The starting event of the Esala Perahera is the planting of the kap or the kap situvima.

The first item in the perahera is the sound of whip crackers. It is followed by the flag bearers. The Peramune-rala is the one who sits on the first elephant in the perahera.

After that so many groups of dancers and drummers, beautifully dressed, add beauty to the perahera. The tusker carrying the casket walks majestically on the pavada. The Diyavadana Nilame and other nilames follow the tusker. There are hundreds of elephants that can be seen in the perahera.

This is the most beautiful perahera I have ever seen.

A special event in August

There are many events which occurred or which are going to occur in the month of August. In August, a special event that is going to please me is my English Day finals.

English Day is one of the grand celebrations which occur in our school. I am also looking forward to win prizes as I am participating in the Speech and Recitation. It gives me great pleasure because we are going to get the prizes at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Cultural Hall (BMICH) in December.

Every year, I participate in the English Day and win many prizes. But this year, the celebrations are quite different and there are grand decorations too.

I should thank the Chairman, the Board of Directors and the Principal of my school for celebrating this event. I think this event is an encouragement for children to take part. I am looking forward to win a prize this year too.

My English teacher

My English Teacher
Is quite a sweet lady
If I were to explain her looks
I'd say she looks like a teddy

She's good and loving sweet
Plus she teaches us well
Her explanation sticks to our mind
Her wisdom, knowledge is far too much to tell

She teacher me Religion as well
And she's unbeatably good at it
She's a great teacher anyone can say
Her light of love forever lit

She's loved by every student
A good, loving teacher is she
She never favours, not a bit
Her kindness cuteness enormous like the sea endures forever

Her identity I shall reveal now
With great honour and pride!
Miss Margo is her glorious name
Her love and wisdom in this school shall ever shine

Poem Of The Week

Freedom from war

When can we obtain,
Freedom from war,
When? Indeed…,
It spreads everywhere like sticky tar.

What has happened to the white dove,
Which roamed the sky,
couple of years
Before,
Spreading love,
And freedom everywhere.

Now it has turned into,
Hatred and disunity.

Notices of deaths,
People fleeing their birth lands,
Soldiers taking out their sheaths,
Or is it guns and bombs?

Can't the problem be settled,
By talking; why war?
Polluting the nature,
By nuclear bombs and harmful smoke.
Let's be united,
And hope for a war-free country.
