Nine troops killed, 11 injured in blast

Nine soldiers were killed and eleven injured at Muhamalai yesterday.

The incident occurred when an army engineer pulled a branch of a tree that was fallen on the ground and this triggered secondary explosion.

The engineers were clearing landmines and Improvised Explosive Devices after the troops captured the Muhamalai defences that existed after the ceasefire.
