Bribery sleuths uncover OIC’s alleged 28-day collection

Wellawatte Police OIC, Uditha Weerasekara is alleged to have received luxury items from residents in the area as bribes during the 28 days he was serving at the station, according to Bribery Commission sleuths who arrested him on Friday.

The detectives said the inspector had received electronic and home appliances from at least 10 jewellery shop owners and building contractors and his behaviour could have posed a threat to national security as several LTTE suspects had been arrested from the area he was serving.

Among the items the detectives had seized from the suspect’s house are a fridge, a leather furniture set and a home-theatre set.

The suspect was remanded till July 14.
