19 SLCJ students
receive diplomas in journalism
The Sri Lanka College of Journalism (SLCJ), held
the diploma awards ceremony for the second batch last week at the
Sri Lanka Institute of International Relations (SLIIR).
This year 19 students successfully completed the
course and received diplomas.SLCJ is one of the pillars of the tripartite
establishment, with the Sri Lanka Press Institute and the Press
Complaints Commission, and was established in 2004 by the Editors’
Guild of Sri Lanka, the Newspaper Society of Sri Lanka and the Free
Media Movement.
The one-year diploma course consists of news and
feature writing, photography, layout design, interviewing skills,
with students completing at least six weeks of internship in newspapers
and in field work.
Among those present were Mr.Ranjit Wijewardena,
Chairman, Sri Lanka Press Institute, Dr.Uvais Ahamed, Director College
of Journalism, Mr.Ranga Kalansooriya, Director General of Sri Lanka
Press Institute, Mr.Julian Wilson, Ambassador/Head of Delegation
of European Union and Mr.Nanda Lakshman Bandara, Chairman of the
Organizing committee who headed the ceremony.
