UNP professionals roll up sleeves

The UNP’s United Professionals Group (UPG) decided to form sub-committees in areas with regard to political affairs, media, international affairs, social and welfare, finance and membership development to further strengthen the professionals’ activities in the group.

A proposal for the implementation of the committees for the above aspects was presented at the UPG’s Annual General Meeting held on May 5 at the Opposition Leader’s Media Centre in Colombo 7.

The UPG was formed in 1994 to mobilize professionals country-wide to contribute positively to the development of the nation within the policies of the UNP.

Among the main objectives of the Group was to voice professional public opinion within the UNP and to ensure professional participation and representation within the party on all matters of national interest.

Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe is the patron and MP Kabir Hashim is the president, while Engineer Upali Perera is secretary and Hussain Hashim the treasurer.

The other members elected were Themiya Hurulle and Tudor Weerasinghe as Vice Presidents and Tony Jayasekara as Assistant Secretary.
