“Cleaner food”
scheme by CMC, Food Processors Association
The Sri Lanka Food Processors Association and the
Colombo Municipal Council are organizing a “Cleaner Outdoor
Dining” programme for restaurants, initially from Colombo
3 to 7.
This is the second time such a programme is being
conducted with the purpose to uplist the standards in the preparation
of food in restaurants and to educate the restaurant kitchen staff.
A statement from the joint organisers said in
this process experts from the hotel industry would educate restaurant
staff on methods to improve hygienic conditions, proper food preparation
techniques, utilizing the existing resources without having to incur,
additional expenses to achieve the minimum quality standards required
by the Public Health Department.
The original concept was suggested by Dr. Pradeep
Kariayawasam, Chief Medical Officer, Colombo Municipal Council.
The guidelines were disclosed to all participants
at a workshop last week conducted by experts in this field. A panel
of judges would visit these restaurants and select the best, who
will be awarded prices and certificates.
The “Cleaner Outdoor Dinning Programme”
will be conducted along with PROFOODS/ PROPACK 2006 (August 25 –
27).
