Probe on GM’s perks

A one-member committee has been appointed by the CEB to inquire into complaints made against its General Manager that he was receiving large sums as allowances.

The inquiry is carried out by S Wimalasena, a former Labour Commissioner.

The committee was appointed following allegations by CEB unions that the General Manager was receiving large allowances. According to a CEB official the General Manager was receiving allowances close to Rs. 40.000 rupees a month.

The committee commenced sittings last week, and has already recorded statements from CEB officials. It is learnt that the General Manager who is due to retire in October this year is yet to be summoned by the Committee as he is overseas.
