Brandix & Rotary bring water to Lunugamvehera

In keeping with their outreach initiative, ‘Water is Life’, to provide safe drinking water for those most in need, Brandix – Sri Lanka’s single largest exporter, together with Reebok India, and in partnership with Rotary Club of Colombo East, brought relief to the people of Lunugamvehera by providing them with drinking water, which was previously unavailable to them.

Brandix sponsored ‘Fashion Statement 06’ was organized by the Rotary Club of Colombo East to raise funds to provide safe drinking water to a needy community in Sri Lanka.

And then there was water for the village of Lunugamvehera.

This particular village was chosen as it was found that the people in the area had to travel over 2 kilometres by foot to obtain safe drinking water. Approximately 100 villagers benefited from this initiative. The people of Lunugamvehera now have access to pure drinking water via a water tank which has a capacity of 2,000 litres, with provision to increase this capacity to 10,000 litres. A cultivation well which had previously been used for drinking purposes but had fallen into disuse and disrepair since, was cleaned and renovated.

Thereafter, a pump house, water tank, pump and a structure for holding the water tank was constructed and the connecting pipelines were laid to the village.

“Water” is the central focus of Brandix community outreach activities. Most recently Brandix commissioned a desalination plant at a cost of Rs 5.7 million for the people of Rajapakshapura, Seeduwa, which consists of over 450 families, who never had access to free, pure drinking water. “At Brandix we are committed to mitigating the issues arising from inadequate pure drinking water, a dire need for many communities in the country” said Shamilka Samarasinghe, Head of CSR at Brandix.
