Southern Province: alternative routes for motorists

The Road Development Authority (RDA) has recommended alternative routes to those travelling to the Southern Province as some of the key roads have been damaged.

Roads in the North and the East have also been severely damaged. "We are in the process of reconstructing the affected roads. On the A2 road only four points, namely at Akurala, Magalle, Hikkaduwa and Weligama are impassable. At Akurala and Magalle bridges have been destroyed and the RDA is in the process of constructing temporary bridges to enable traffic to move along the roads," RDA Chief Engineer Mrs. D.N. Siyabalapitiya said.

Note: Not recommended for heavy vehicles
To Ambalangoda - The use of the Colombo-Galle road is possible up to Ambalangoda.

To Galle from Hikkaduwa - The use of the Colombo - Galle road is possible
