East now flooded after tsunami
Shattered by the tsunami catastrophe, the eastern districts of Ampara and Batticalao were further battered over the weekend with some of the heaviest rains in recent years and devastating floods.

Reports said at least 15 tsunami refugee camps were flooded after heavy overnight rains dumped 350 millimetres of water over the coastal regions of Ampara and Batticaloa.

They said coastal roads were flooded and key bridges damaged, preventing relief workers from bringing aid to refugees.

The areas worst affected are Ampara, Akkaraipattu, Kalmunai and Batticaloa where some roads were reported to be under three feet of water yesterday.
